This weekend, Mike and I drove to Nasvhille to visit my old college roommates, Stephanie and Linda. I haven’t been to visit in a few years, so I was really excited to see them and their families. Plus, it was nice just to get out of town for a few days.
While there, I made sure we made time to visit Hatch Show Print in downtown Nashville. First opened in 1879, Hatch is one of the country’s oldest working letterpress shops. Originally used to promote vaudeville, circus, and minstrel shows across the country, they now focus mainly on creating show posters for bands, most often country acts. Each year, they turn nearly 600 jobs using their collection of letters and hand-carved images and antique presses.
It was a thrill, not only to get to see a working letterpress shop and browse through the prints, but to actually see the antique presses in action. I came home with three prints, which I’ll be sure to share as soon as I get them framed and hung.
Here are a few pics from my visit!
