Happy Cinco de Mayo! In honor of the day, I thought I’d share one of my favorite Etsy shops, which has a decidedly Mexican flavor. Artist Jose Pulido creates and sells prints and t-shirts using mostly Calavera imagery in his shop, Mis Nopales Art. Calavera is Spanish for “skull,” and is associated with Day of the Dead celebrations. Yes, I’m aware that Day of the Dead is in October/November, and has nothing to do with Cinco de Mayo, but just go with me on this one, okay?
Here are a few of my favorite items in his shop. I actually have the “Campfire” print in my living room (which you’ll see if I ever get around to photographing and posting that room in my House Tour!)
And one more for good measure, just because it’s AMAZING:
Today’s the day I pick the winner for our first giveaway of a piece of jewelry from my own Etsy shop, Metal & Mud Designs!
In order to make it truly random, I used Random.org’s “List Randomizer.” I put in the names of each entrant, hit randomize, and the person in the top spot was our lucky winner!
And that person is… allison!
Here’s what allison had to say in her original comment:
And here is the piece of jewelry she chose!
allison, just shoot me an e-mail at email@example.com with your address and I’ll ship out your new necklace right away. Congrats!
Yes, my first giveaway is from my very own Etsy shop, Metal and Mud! I’m giving away any 1 piece of jewelry, valued up to $17. So take a look around the shop, then leave me a comment telling me your favorite piece, and I’ll randomly choose a winner from among the commenters on Monday, April 18th!
**EDIT: Just a quick reminder! This giveaway is for 1 piece of JEWELRY. Be sure to pick your favorite item from the jewelry section only to be included in the random drawing!!**
After several years of a chin-length bob, I’ve decided to let my hair grow out. For a while, anyway. The goal is to get it long enough to do Locks of Love again (for the 3rd time), but we’ll see if I can make it that long! At the moment, it’s in a slightly awkward mid-length stage, and it’s driving me NUTS. Time to break out the headbands again, and as luck would have it, I just stumbled across BeSomethingNew on Etsy the other day! The shop is geared toward bridal pieces, but there are several headbands that would work great for every day. Here are a few of my favorites:
Stay tuned tomorrow for my first giveaway, from my own Etsy shop, Metal & Mud!
A few months ago, I updated the layout of my Etsy shop. In preparation for the upcoming craft fair season, I decided to update my packaging and displays to match. So far I’ve worked on the tags. Next I need to start building the displays themselves. That part will be a lot more work, but I have some ideas for altering my current displays that I’m really excited about.
Today I’m featuring an Etsy artist from Ireland, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Mon, the artist behind BagNoir, makes the most beautiful clutches using vintage frames and gorgeous fabrics. She says, “They are made from high quality fabrics and funky materials to add a bit of luxury.” Love them!

The weather has turned cold again here in Memphis. I, for one, can’t wait for summer! Here are some Etsy items that are helping me get in the mood:
Time to start planning a trip somewhere warm and sunny!
Papercutting, aka Scherenschnitte, has always fascinated me. I love the delicate and intricate designs, and admire the skill and dedication it must take to create them. Here are a few cool examples of different styles of papercutting that I found on Etsy.
Meaning “tiny things” in Spanish, Cosas Mínimas is the Etsy shop of Blanca Gómez. Based in Madrid, Spain, Blanca is an illustrator with a wide variety of corporate clients, ranging from Dwell Magazine to Honda. The illustrations she sells in her Etsy shop are bright and fun, with simple, bold design. They would look just as at home in a kids room as in your living room! Here are a few of my favorites:
The past few days in Memphis have been gloriously warm, and it’s given me a serious case of Spring Fever. Being cooped up in the office when it’s this nice outside is just cruel! This is camping weather, people! What I wouldn’t give to be sitting in front of a crackling fire with a beer, a guitar and good friends right now.
